Perfume: never ever pay retail!

24.99 instead of $57.90? Is that even a question!?
Digging for sale gold at discount stores can often be a daunting task...most of us just aren't looking for a purple turtleneck with rhinestones and a mysterious lipstick stain that's been unsold since Winter of '06. Luckily, there are plenty of current, unsoiled deals to be had.

For those who crave a great deal without sale-rack chaos, consider buying your fave perfume at places like Marshall's and TJ Maxx. Because perfume doesn't really go out of style, you never have to wait for last season's leftovers and the selection is always up to date.

Whether you wear Burberry Brit or Curious by Brit Spears, discount stores have a million options for 50% less than department store prices. All packaging, plastic-wrapping and contents are completely the same, so there's no need to worry about a half-empty bottle inside your box.

Tip: If you're buying perfume as a gift, whip out an old Sephora bag and some red tissue paper to mask your place of purchase.

Nothing says romance more than the shoe aisle at T.J. Maxx
When shopping, it's important to remember that price does not always affect quality. While you may not be interested in buying your wedding dress at a discount store or flat out having your reception there, things like activewear, exercise equipment and home-goods are pretty standard no matter where you snag them.

Tip: When you go to a discount store, it is essential to shop with a purpose. Have an idea of what you're looking for or you'll most likely come home with a new spatula and a yoga mat when all you went for was a belt.

Splurge of the week 10/8

Sparkle & Fade Cutout Knit Peplum Dress
Unless you live under a rock and/or your name is Bertha, you've probably noticed that the vintage peplum look is back in style in a big way.

Enormously flattering in all the right places, that little peplum skirt is the exact disguise we need as the holidays roll around...one should never be expected to pass up a fantastic looking cheese platter or Aunt Gwen's famous fudge cake.

Providing a slimming shield for that lower-tummy pooch we all despise, a peplum waist has got you covered...literally. Peplum also gives the body a sexy, ultra-feminine hourglass shape. Pair a peplum top with loose shorts for daytime or slip it over a pencil skirt for a chic professional (happy hour) look.

Urban Outfitters Cutout Ponte Knit Peplum Dress ($69) is totally splurge-worthy for this week, and if you don't live near a store, no worries...there's free shipping for all orders over $50!

Olivia Palermo style: get the look for less!

On Fridays we wear black.
After watching Olivia Palermo on The City, we've come to a very clear conclusion: hate the girl, love her style.

Who would ever think or dare to combine so many different bold pieces? This chic satin fit and flare dress is topped with a peplum-inspired, mixed-fabric bomber jacket. Belted to give the body some shape beneath layers of loose-fitting material, the look is softened (both literally and figuratively) with a chained fur handbag. The black pointed heels are basics, and you've probably had a pair since Sophomore sorority rush.

If Olivia were a little bit nicer to our beloved Whit, perhaps we'd feel the littlest bit of remorse for stealing this fab look...but we don't. Thanks, LIVVY!
